2020 goals | Have you set yours yet?

PLANNING 2020 GOALS.

Just after Christmas is when we like to think about our 2020 goals, however, this year we’re not setting any..

Christmas is still well and truly with us in our house. How was yours by the way? It hasn’t completely gone as we still have decorations and the kids presents EVERYWHERE, saying that, we are trying to crack on with the new year and start our planning for 2020.

This year however, feels very different for us. We started discussing our 2020 goals, plans and motivations and realised that they were pretty much the same as they had been for the past few years excluding a couple of mini goals. Our ‘why’ is our family and our goals are all about financial stability for us and our children.

So, if our goals aren’t changing this year and to be honest all we do is think about them as they are in our face daily, what do we focus on this year? What’s new? What’s changed? What do we need to discuss to re-energise, stay focused and to keep our motivation levels high?

THAT’S WHEN IT CAME TO US…

We’d been hearing this phrase around and have done now for a while, but suddenly it started to resonate and it now made total sense to us. You know, after all what do you do when your goals don’t change and they’re so engrained in you that the focus is a constant in your life?!

Well, there’s a couple of ways we’ve heard this recently and both can resonate in different ways.

  1. Simplify to Amplify –  We first heard this phrase by Marie Forleo when she was on the Chris Evans Virgin Radiobreakfast show and it makes so much sense.
  2. Remove the noise – We’re not sure where we first heard this one, but we like it a lot, as we all have a lot of noise around us and by removing it, we can crack on with what we’re going to achieve.

Both phrases do pretty much mean the same, just in a slightly different way and as always one way may mean more to you than the other.

WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT THIS THOUGH?

Well, we have a look at our day to day, our monthlies. What takes up too much time, what can be outsourced, what can be simplified. We’d be looking at our personal life, business processes and everything we do.

Could you for instance, combine fitness with a commute to save time. Could you cut back on house work, outsource it or even streamline? Mrs Hinch [Sophie Hinchliffe] knows all about this.

Sometimes, simplifying can be about streamlining and not cutting out. I for one, hate steam mopping the kitchen floor. But we didn’t want to get a cleaner and I found that doing it took up a lot of brain power and head time.. I combatted this, but saying that I will know steam mop the floor every Monday night. I removed the choice, I minimised the brain time, I streamlined it and ultimately simplified that process to allow head space for other more proactive and exciting thoughts!

A COUPLE OF OTHER QUICK AND EASY WAYS TO REMOVE NOISE ARE AS FOLLOWS :-

  1. Unsubscribe from email newsletters [not ours though], we’ve all bought something online and now get emails regularly from the companies. You may have already decided that you’re not buying anything from them, so take the time to unsubscribe or even to close your account on their website. Both are very good housekeeping practises that will help remove some noise.
  2. Mute some Facebook groups or even leave them altogether! I’m in loads of Facebook groups for business and pleasure. Some I want / need to be in and others I’m in because I think it’s good to be in them for our business presence. So, spend time deciding what / who you need to see from and either mute or leave them to free up your feed.

We’d love to hear from you on any quick ways to simplify and remove some noise from both your personal and business life, as if you’re anything like us there very entwined! Do share in the comments below as we’d love to hear from you..

Thank you and have fun always.
