Beyond the Buzzwords: What ‘Human Connection’ Actually Means for Your Business.

The curious tale of the HUG in the night….

Ok, just realised that this tag line, could imply something else! 😂

What actually happened, is that I wanted to write about human connection, with an element of hugs and then I got the title of the book stuck in my head! So please do roll with it and enjoy…

~

As always, Let’s start at the beginning..

Human Connection.. What does it actually mean?

According to Gemini AI [our new best fwend], Human connection is the feeling of belonging, shared understanding, and closeness experienced when interacting with others, where individuals feel seen, heard, valued, and understood.

Wow.. That’s a lot, right? But strip it all back, and it’s surely just about how you feel, or a choice you make. Still, knowing that doesn’t always answer how the heck you actually do it, does it?

That’s where buzz words like ‘authenticity’ and ‘personal brand’ come in. Essentially trying to make the intangible a bit more tangible… And giving us lists to follow! (Because who doesn’t love a good list or check sheet!?)

As online visibility specialist, we’re all about growing and utilising online to grow our brands, be visible and build our audiences organically.. However… We still need that element of human connection..

So what could you do?

Here’s 5 simple & fun things you can do this week that are all about human connection in an online visibility world:

  1. The Morning Brew: share a super casual “good morning” or “happy [Day of the week]!” video story (Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn). No sales pitch, just you, maybe your cuppa, wishing your audience well.
  2. #BeSocial: reply to the comments on your posts with thoughtful replies with questions about them.
  3. The “Behind-the-Fun” Glimpse (Show Your Silliness): Share one small, unpolished, slightly silly behind-the-scenes photo or short video each week (e.g., your messy desk after a creative session, a pet “helping” you work, a minor tech blunder you can laugh about).
  4. The “Shout-Out Someone Awesome” Post (Spread the Love): publicly appreciate another small business, a client, or someone in your network on your social media. Tag them and say something specific you admire.
  5. The “Quick Question” Poll/Sticker: Use a poll or question stickers on your socials to ask a fun, lighthearted, or thought-provoking question (not business-related).

Thinking about No.five on the above list for a moment.. Did you see the poll on Hugs that I [Alan] put out on LinkedIn? HERE Would love to know what you think…

And, if you’re e true connoisseur of the beautiful hug, then you may also like this short that went out.

As always, posts like these for us, do way better than any traditional ‘add value’ post.

They’re key in helping people understand that you are you… And, if you want to get technical for a moment.. You’ll get more people engage with that style of post, who then will see your next slightly more businessy post, that could be mentioning your current offer or service! Which is winning all round.

Finally. For us The Funpreneurs BIG Day Out is a culmination of all of this..

We started and grew our business, inc 🎪The Digital Circus Community back in 2020 by sending voice DMs to people on Instagram and in 2022 we ran an online event called 🎪The Digital Circus LIVE: Human Connection in a Digital World. Where 100 people came together online to connect and learn..

And over time, we learnt that it all HAD to have it’s own IRL [in real life] version.. Yes, we’re digital first, but it would have been hypocritical of us to not embrace local IRL because of our beliefs in Human Connection..

So, That’s exactly what the BIG Day Out is all about.. Its the sparkle point of Human Connection for everything we believe in and we reckon you do to.

Stay awesome always and thanks for reading..

Alan
